The canon has sounded and the 49th RBC Heritage is underway! I’m pretty sure that we residents have the most fun at Heritage of anybody. The whole thing feels like a celebration of just how fortunate we are to live here. It’s good to walk around the course and say hello to so many people whose lives we’ve touched – and vice versa. I’m pretty sure every resident feels that way to some extent.
Mary Ann and I certainly feel it in full. We are fortunate that our work has brought us so many long-lasting relationships.
I was a kid growing up in Ridgeland when Arnold Palmer sank the first winning Heritage putt in 1969. The Harbour Town Lighthouse was topped-out just in time to be looking over Palmer’s shoulder. The “skin” wasn’t even on the tower yet.
A few years later, I went to work down in Harbour Town, involved in the construction of several buildings around the iconic Lighthouse and yacht basin.
We’ve done a lot of building since then. All of us. Just being a part of it seems like something to treasure, because Hilton Head Island turned out pretty well. And we’re fortunate in another way – this story is not all in the past. We’re still meeting folks and helping them build their dreams all the time.
