How to hire a contractor or remodeler
We can thank the Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association for providing two informative brochures. They’re about finding and hiring a builder or remodeler. The advice is pretty much the same for both, but it’s helpful that the Builders Association dealt with both kinds of projects.
The local Builders Association is one of the few construction organizations that’s been around longer than we have. It was formed in 1965 as a not-for-profit professional trade association. It includes residential and light commercial builders, remodelers, professional tradesmen and supporting businesses like subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, mortgage lenders, Realtors and so forth.
Our company’s been a member of The Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association for a long while. I’ve personally served on the board in the past, because I wanted to contribute some service. Since the Builders Association works to raise and maintain the standards of the building industry throughout our region – and the members seem to see the importance of keeping pace with technology and ever-changing industry practices – it’s an important resource for our industry.
The Association has recognized us four times as “Builder of the Year.” We’re proud and thankful for the recognition.
Protect yourself – hire a reputable contractor
If you are ready to build a new home or are preparing to make a major addition, there is some important information in these brochures you should know.
First of all, South Carolina has a statewide building standard for all new home construction. This law requires all new homes to be completed to specific standards and provides for inspections to verify work was done correctly and to code.
In addition to a clean track record of sticking to the South Carolina Building Codes, there are some other important items you should look for when you hire a contractor.
Everything you ever wanted to know about hiring a professional remodeler When you hire a remodeler, you are buying a service rather than a product. The quality of the service the remodeler provides will determine the quality of the finished product and your satisfaction.
We have relationships with several local suppliers, vendors and lenders. Here are links to several we recommend. If you have specific needs or questions, give us a call or drop us an email and we’ll do our best to get you the information you need:
